NATIONAL LIBRARY OF INDIA ORGANIZED WEBINAR ON OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION
National Library of India organized a Webinar on "Developments with Optical Character Recognition for Printed Bangla at the British Library" on July 9, 2020 at
4.00 to 5:30 PM through video conferencing mode.Mr.Tom Derrick, Digital Curator,Two Centuries of Indian Print British Library, London delivered a lecture on the said
topic. He discussed about the development of OCR for Bengali language and also for some of the Indian languages. Ms.E.Gajalakshmi, ALIO
introduced the speaker and explained about the programme.
Shri P.L.Sahu, Director General, National Library delivered the welcome address. Dr.K.K.Kochukoshy,OSD also briefed the audience about the program.
Dr.Partha Sarathi Das, ALIO administrator of the GotoMeeting app hosted
the whole program. The deliberation was followed by a lively interaction of the
participants with the resource person. The Around
150 participants from different parts in India were participated in the
said webinar.Mr.Akhlaque Ahmad, ALIO delivered vote of thanks.
About the Speaker:
Tom is a member of the Two Centuries of Indian Print project that will digitise and make available rare Indian books held at the British Library, London. He is interested in the creation of datasets through exploring OCR technologies and supporting researchers applying digital research methods to the collection.Prior to joining the British Library, Tom gained several years of experience across editorial development, production and marketing functions for an academic publisher of digital learning resources, collaborating with an international array of libraries to digitise their collections.
